Falcon and Budgie round up the Coffs crew for their annual bash north onboard The Mighty Mango.

The Group

We always look forward to this time of year when you see the guest list of these top-shelf humans on their way to Padang to set sail with us once again.

A bunch of best mates who use their time onboard The Mango to catch up, surf, fish and absolutely rip on each other. Let’s not forget a drink or two and the iconic card game called SH*T HEAD. Sorry Terry, but we believe you’re SH&T HEAD until the next trip….

Conditions/Forecast

The stiff southerly continues to blow which isn’t our all-time favorite wind but if you know where to go and are willing to go the extra mile you will find yourself surfing every day with minimal crowd.

Plenty of hours on the trot had us on the best waves possibly capitalizing on the two swells that Huey threw at us with the tricky winds.

Standout Sessions

Boat is always best. Having the option to surf from dawn till dusk and travel during the dark hours of the night you get to maximize your surfing time and know you will be first and last on the spot. This particular day a storm had come out of the NW which opened up an option to go right.

As the storm settled, the waves cleaned up, and knowing we had all afternoon we waited it out to score an epic solo session trading waves with only mates.

A few guys enjoyed a cold afternoon Bintang in The Mango’s beer garden while the others enjoyed their best session of the trip. A win for the 9 natural footers onboard this trip.

Wave of the trip

All the team were ripping and pushing themselves, but Wave of the trip had to go to Huey this week - as we sailed south, we broke up the crossing at one of Indonesia’s biggest swell magnets for the afternoon. The call didn’t let us down as perfect 8-footers rolled down the reef. There were no takers this afternoon, a few tactical beers cracked and everyone was happy to be sitting on the boat and watching the spectacle in front of us.

Personalities

As we mentioned this is one of our favorite trips of the year. The top-shelf lineup and belly laughs that come with the group make the trip always one to remember. Non-stop banter, a few characters and mates stirring each other up at every chance they get childhood stories, and the vibe of just being on holiday with only the surfing to worry about.

Food

Chef Situ always delivers! From Thai to Mexican to Aussie (a taste of home), Italian, the list goes on but the variety of food put on the table each and every trip has the guest raving.

Fish on

It’s been a minute but with birthday boy, and keen fisherman “Rock the Dazzbah” we dispatched the Foxy Lady and went hunting. Shortly after setting lines we heard the noise of the reels going off. A nice solid Dog Tooth tuna was the victim which was a great birthday delivery for Rock the Dazzbah and a quick circle back found us jagging another monster tuna. What a session!

Darren Leaney, or “D-man” will have you in stitches with some of the one-liners, nicknames and antics he’s been up to but the internet isn’t quite ready yet for some of his finest work this trip, so we will run with

“Up the Wahs”….

In support of the NRL football team bowing out of the finals this week and good luck for next year.

Dazz Man!

Special Thanks

Falcon and Budgie for getting the crew together, Mangalui Ndulu and her professional crew for always keeping us safe and comfortable along the way.

A special mention to Resort Latitude Zero for absolutely putting a night on for us which culminated very late with Tony doing a few bonfire jumps. We are still laughing.

Cheers boys.

Yours truly Uncle Lip
