Cliff and the gang try a boat trip!

Words and pics | Uncle Lip

The Group

The group from Brisvegas! Friends, friends of friends, goofy, natural, all came together for one hell of a time onboard The Mighty Mango.

Conditions/Forecast

Again, stella weather with extremely light variable winds and clear skies. As far as swell, there wasn’t much on offer but we hit all the swell magnets From Telo’s to Hinakos onto Afulu and surfed alone every day keeping the froth alive. No lay days, boat’s always best.

Standout Sessions

Every day was a standout for the land locked group from Brisbane, always enjoying being first and last on the spot each day, but the last day, we had the beginning of a fresh swell at everyone’s favourite A-Frame in the Telo’s, once again alone.

3-4 foot lefts and rights splitting the peak. Silky smooth offshore and 10 wave sets.

You know it’s a good day when you can get two waves to yourself in the one set.

Wave of the trip

Wave of the trip wasn’t captured unfortunately but was when the girls dropped in on young Bill and as Bill got faded mum Susie turned around and gave him the bird.

Next in line was - any wave “Bintang Allie” caught. She would ride the whole entire wave with a smile from ear to ear. A really refreshing sight and as we know the best surfer in the lineup is…the one having the most fun.

Personalities

Such a grateful and vibrant group of people enjoying the adventures on hand throughout North Sumatra. The live-a-board charter was a new experience for the group and it exceeded their expectations. First light to last light on the spot, the thrill of motoring from zone to zone and a few brews each evening had the vibes flowing 24/7 in a new place every day.

Food

Ocean to plate. Fresh sashimi for the win this trip. Nothing compares!

Fish on

Right now, the fishing in Sumatra is the best it’s been for a while. Catching fish when in transit is always a bonus but when you’re catching them every drive it gives you plenty of entertainment and one happy crew.

After day two of solo sessions, we sent the Mango to night anchorage early for dinner and our Foxy Lady (7m speed boat) stood by while the gang surfed the sunset session. Many waves were exchanged and an esky of ice cold Bintangs awaited.

With Smiles all round,  Jae looks at Cliff and said

“I know you said you would just like to do one more trip and let’s make it a Mango trip…I don’t think that’s gunna be the case”

see you next year ;)

Special Thanks

As always, the crew. Mother Nature and Huey for putting together another epic trip. The positive vibes from our guest! And Resort Latitude Zero for firing up the Margaritas for an absolute epic evening.

Yours truly Uncle Lip. See you guys onboard.
