An epic North Sumatra adventure!
Words & Pics | Uncle Lip
THE GROUP
An extended family trip of fathers, sons, cousins, nephews, uncles and childhood mates made up the group from the mid north coast NSW this trip.
With a tight lineup like that you know you’re in for a good time!
Conditions/Forecast
Smallest forecast we have seen all year and the request to go north was a risky one, but a good call at the end of the day.
Some tricky weather kept us on our toes and the swell magnets served us very well for a great trip.
STANDOUT SESSIONS
Our favorite beachy in the world turned on multiple times over the 11-day trip. These will be the memories burned to the brain forever. Cooking!
Wave of the trip
Harry stepped up at the beachy, snapping two boards and having a good old crack pulling into some bombs. He was the standout on the best day, followed by Russ who wasn’t pulling back and still picking out sand two days later…
Personalities
When you throw a tight group of family and mates onboard its always going to be the best time of your life. Plenty of childhood stories kept the vibe high every day, in and out of the water.
Food
Chef Situ does it again!
Spice marinated baked Spanish mackerel and BBQ king prawns were the standouts for this trip. Situ you legend.
Fish on
Not a lot of fishing this trip but when we trolled a hotspot that has a 100% strike rate this season Colbey managed to score himself a respectable dog tooth tuna. Bezi, our mechanic, got himself a massive PB squid. A big call after 25 years at sea.
Young Jesse got a nice parrot fish on the gun.
“If we get waves, it’s just a bonus”
HARRY
That’s the best attitude. Your pretty much guaranteed waves, after all, it’s the most consistent wave rich island chain in the world.
Special Thanks
Sharpy for getting the team together and Uncle Sooly for putting on a epic night at the Telo RSL.
Cheers.
Yours truly, Uncle Lip.
