A few Mangalui veterans from 20 years ago and a few new faces made up the team this week. Always nice to show off our operation to fresh eyes and also previous guest how far we have come since day one 30 odd years ago.

The lads know how to do a surf trip in style - a week at Resort Latitude Zero surfing around Telo Islands and what better way to get back to Padang than onboard The Mighty Mango for a week.

A request to shoot “up north” had been put forward. Not exactly the desired swell forecast for such a run but we have plenty of tricks up our sleeve right across Sumatra and scored some great waves, mainly surfing alone.

Standout Sessions

There was a few session that will never be forgotten - a fast hollow left hander, some solid roll ins at a certain swell magnet and some fun rip-able righthanders on our way back through Telo. Each session catering to each person. Being on a live-a-board, you have the whole day to pick a window and patience is key.

Wave of the trip

Wave of the trip has to go to Micko - early one morning Mick decided this wave wasn’t for him. In his defense it does break very quick, hollow and close to the reef. After a morning sitting on the boat it was time for Mick to reassess and give it another go. Mick later found himself on wave of the session. A nice throaty backhand tube with no rail grab. Unfortunately Mick didn’t come out of this barrel but the vision he got earned him wave of the trip.
